ABOUT: R O N A L D M. C A N T E R
Many lawyers limit their practices to specialized fields of law.
Some examples:
~ Attorneys small firms or in private practice
~ Trial attorneys
~ Litigators - who defend and sue in court
Lawyers may specialize in a number of areas, such as probate, international, bankruptcy, or elder law.
Some lawyers specialize in the growing field of helping to protect clients’ claims to copyrights, artwork under contract, intellectual property, product designs, and computer programs.
Other advise insurance companies about the legality of insurance transactions, or represent their clients in diferent aspects of the law.
During the 18th and 19th centuries the terms "lawsuit" and "civil action" was common for lawyers to speak of bringing an "action" at law and a "suit" in equity.
The unification of law and equity led to the collapse of that distinction, so it became possible to speak of a "lawsuit."
