       In the United States an attorney at law is a practitioner in a court of law who is legally qualified to prosecute and defend actions in such court on the retainer of clients.
        Attorneys, also called lawyers, act as both advisors and advocates in our society.
        As advocates, they represent one of the parties in criminal and civil trials by arguing in court to support their client.
        Legal advisors counsel their clients about their legal rights and obligations.
